‘Gazza’ is England’s most controversial player. Hugely gifted, his indiscipline, both on and off the field, has made him extremely difficult to handle. After a booking in the 1990 World Cup semi-final, which would have prevented him from playing in the final, Gascoigne cried openly on the pitch. This, allied to his undoubted talents, catapulted him to stardom. From Tottenham Hotspur he was transferred to Lazio in Italy, a move delayed due to a bad injury sustained while making a rash tackle. After a turbulent time there which included more bad injuries and general poor fitness, he joined Rangers in Scotland where he has been very successful. Blessed with outstanding balance, ball skills and vision. Has not returned to the English National team since he was dropped by Glenn Hoddle for having misconduct few weeks before the WC begins.
