Martyn’s excellent form in recent seasons has seen him emerge as a major threat to David Seaman as England’s number one stopper. He has twice been involved in British record transfers for a goalkeeper: firstly moving from Bristol Rovers FC to Crystal Palace FC; and then from Palace to Leeds. Martyn has always been regarded as a superb shot-stopper, but his all-round game has improved immensely in the past seasons. He made his national team debut in 1992, but caps have been few and far between since – there was a four-year gap between his third and fourth cap.
