He spent ten seasons in the Belgian league, most notably with R. Standard Liege. His ability to strike from deep-lying positions was never better illustrated than when he struck five goals in helping FC Schalke 04 to reach the UEFA Cup final in 1996/97. In the 1998 World Cup he scored twice against Mexico.
